Neurohealth Associates comprehensively focuses on the needs and symptoms of the adult having cognitive, mood, or physical symptoms. The testing process results in a treatment plan that may include cognitive therapy and EEG neurofeedback. Medication consultation may also ensue in selected cases. The following symptoms are most commonly encountered:

ADD

Although the exact numbers of adults with ADD is unknown, studies so far reveal that the condition probably exists in about 2-4% of adults. The most common symptoms include difficulty getting work done, procrastination, inattentiveness, and/or organization problems.

Adults’ symptoms may present differently from children’s symptoms. Your symptoms can change with age, but for many people this disorder can continue to create difficulties when it’s not treated. Many adults with untreated ADD deal with formidable obstacles at home, in personal relationships, and at work.

Anxiety (adolescents & adults)

Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress. However, in some people anxiety can become excessive. There are many varieties of anxiety disorders that include post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and panic disorder. When grouped all together these disorders are among the most common psychological disorders.

Several different parts of the brain are key in the production of fear and anxiety. Using non-invasive brain mapping technology, doctors and scientists have discovered that the amygdala plays a significant role in most anxiety disorders. Other patients with anxiety have excessive fast frequency brain waves that make it difficult to relax.

Mood Disorders (depression; irritability; anger)

When you think of mood disorders, most often depression and bipolar disorder come to mind. These are common and sometimes severe illnesses and are leading causes of disability. For adults suffering with depression or a bipolar disorder symptoms can be emotionally crippling, making it difficult to live life on a day to day basis. Two milder versions of mood disorders can also take a toll, and can often go undiagnosed. These are called dysthymic disorder and cyclothymic disorder. If left untreated, these mood disorders can develop into more severe depression. Up to 5% of the general population is affected by dysthymic disorder.

Stress Syndromes (burnout; fatigue; insomnia)

Everyone responds to stress in ways in their own unique way. Some people get tired, some irritable, some overwhelmed, and others cognitively disorganized.

Stress, in general, is related to both external and internal factors. External factors may include the physical environment you are in, including your job, your relationships, your home, and the many situations, difficulties, and expectations you must deal with on a daily basis. There are internal factors relating to stress as well. Internal factors that determine your body’s ability to respond to the external stress-inducing factors. Some of the internal factors which influence your ability to handle stress include sleep quality, the ability to turn off one’s mind, and the stability of one’s mood.

In order to reduce feelings of stress we need to change the way our brain responds to it. If you are oversensitive/reactive to stress you will have difficulties in “relaxing” after a stressful day. Stressed brains have difficulty recovering from stressful events of the day. Neurofeedback will directly address this imbalance by training the brain to produce more balance brain wave rhythms that the brain needs to have familiarity with producing for itself on a daily basis. These “neural” states are conducive to relaxation and recovery.

Post-Concussion Syndrome

Post-concussion syndrome, which is also known as PCS, is a set of symptoms that may continue for weeks, months, or more after a concussion (a mild form of traumatic brain injury). The condition can cause a variety of symptoms including headache, difficulty concentrating, rapid fatigue after mental activity, and irritability. Many of the symptoms of PCS are common to, or exacerbated by, other disorders increasing the risk of misdiagnosis..

Peak Performance

The brain and the body that it drives work best when in balance. Balance essentially means the right amount of various brain wave frequencies and electronic timing patterns in the brain.

Brain balance can be trained via high-tech reinforcement called EEG neurofeedback. To gain peak performance, the brain is reinforced for producing brain harmony which is a type of homeostasis. Think of homeostasis as a “level playing field” for your brain to respond efficiently to thinking, feeling, and reacting.

Brain Mapping is a completely non-invasive way of measuring brain activity and no two people have exactly the same brain map. This tells us exactly what type of neurofeedback training would best be suited for an individual’s brain. The sole objective of brainwave optimization methods is to establish balance and harmony in the brain. Clearly, this is not a “one size fits all” approach and this type of individualization allows this approach to be both very effective and streamlined.

What Our Clients Are Saying

Julia W

Teachers made huge comments on his math skills and behavior. I also saw this at home with understanding of what I said to him registering more with him. I saw this in his eyes: recognition. Fewer outbursts of anger.
